As the lead ship in a new class, the SPRUANCE was given the works. Here are photos of the shock test. 10,000 lbs of high explosives pulled by a tug into position along side of the SPRUANCE. Two tests were done to determine the affect of the blast on the ships system and structure. This was the closer of the two blasts, and the ship was DIW (dead in the water) for 1/2 hour while electrical systems were brought back online. The view on the left is taken from the tug, and from the signal bridge on the right. | |
