USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CVA-67)
The KENNEDY is being considered for decommissioning. Mayport is not capable of supporting the newer nuclear carriers. If the KENNEDY is decomm'ed, the locals fear losing the base since the Navy would transfer the remaining ships to bases elsewhere. This would damage the local economy and squander the money Mayport spent on supporting the base.
